Screener overlooks airline ID, so feds shut down checkpoints
The Tacoma (WA) News Tribune
Security checkpoints at Sea-Tac Airport were shut down for about half an
hour Friday after a federal screener thought someone had improperly entered
a secured area.
Turns out the person was a Northwest Airlines employee with proper
identification, said airport spokeswoman Katie Nowlin. The screener just
didn't get a good look at the ID, Nowlin said.
Transportation Security Administration employees closed checkpoints to the
departure gates about 4:25 p.m. while they tracked down the employee, she
said. The checkpoints were reopened about 5 p.m., Nowlin said.
Planes set to take off during that time were held.
"We didn't let passengers board for about a half-hour, so there may have
been slight delays," she said.
