Williams Gateway Airport to get federal funds
The Business Journal of Phoenix (AZ)
Williams Gateway Airport is one of four former military airfields to be
getting federal funds to improve facilities and attract new business, U.S.
Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta said Friday.
Williams Gateway will receive Military Airport Program funds to bring a
hangar into compliance with code and to rehabilitate a parking lot and
access roads.
The MAP program provides funds for airports operating at former military
facilities that were closed during previous base-closing rounds.
In addition to Williams Gateway, other airports added to the program Friday
include Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fla.; Guam International Airport in
Agana, Guam; and Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio.
This year $34 million in MAP funds will be divided among 15 airports,
including the four just added to the program. The airports receive funding
over a three-year period.
