Airport picks contractor for new baggage system
Business First of Louisville (KY)
The Louisville Regional Airport Authority has awarded a $12.1 million
contract to install a new baggage-scanning system at Louisville
International Airport that will speed check-in for passengers and clear the
ticketing area of the large equipment used to check baggage.
The contract was awarded to Louisville's King Construction Co. Inc. during a
meeting of the Airport Authority board on Wednesday.
King Construction was among four bidders for the project, which includes
building two, 11,000-square-foot additions to the south side of the airport
terminal, installing equipment for the baggage system and building offices
for the Transportation Security Administration on the second floor.
Trish Burke, a spokeswoman for the Airport Authority, said the project is
expected to begin in early May and be completed by August of next year. When
completed, the project is expected to simplify the check-in process for
passengers, she said. Newer equipment being furnished by the TSA also is
expected to speed the process of scanning luggage being checked in by
passengers on flights leaving Louisville International Airport.
