Airport Shows Retrained Officers
WXIA-TV Ch 11 (NBC), Atlanta (GA)
Atlanta is getting its first look Thursday at how police officers are being
trained to handle curb-side drivers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport.
Officials say the training program is designed to prevent tense situations
that can occur when Atlanta police officers clash with drivers who violate
the ban on parking outside of either the airport's North or South terminals.
The training comes on the heels of a highly publicized, headline-grabbing
incident involving a police officer and a Henry County woman last November.
Surveillance video recorded the officer restraining and appearing to throw
the woman to the ground.
Police Chief Richard Pennington says the airport's officers generally
perform a very good service. But, he said they did need some work in
offering effective customer service.
