Airport board holds closed meeting
Board dicusses air service negotiations and personnel

The Hall County Airport Authority held a nearly two-hour closed meeting
Monday afternoon to discuss air service negotiations and personnel.

Authority attorney Ron DePue and board Chairman Ken Caldwell both declined
to specify whether the personnel meeting was regarding Airport Manager Bill
Stovall, who was arrested last week for assaulting his wife after she filed
for divorce.

Stovall had previously been advised by the airport board's personnel
committee to make changes to what it called his "aggressive" management
style.

The airport authority called its meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. Monday. It
approved minutes and then went into closed session.

DePue announced before the start of the meeting that "there will be no
action" taken.

The board, DePue, Stovall and Airport Security Manager Kathy Sok were in the
closed session for about 25 minutes. Sok then left the meeting and Stovall
came out about three minutes later.

The board then met behind closed doors for about 70 minutes without Stovall.

Vice Chairman Doyle Hulme then exited the meeting, looking for Stovall.

"We need to see you, Bill," Hulme said as he entered Stovall's office.

The board meeting continued with Stovall for about 10 more minutes before
the meeting was adjourned.

"We came out of executive session with no decision made," Caldwell said.

He said the board's next meeting will be at 7 a.m. Monday, in which formal
action can be taken. When asked whether any action was anticipated on either
air service negotiations or personnel, Caldwell said simply that the agenda
will be out later this week.

Stovall has been manager of the airport since June 1999 and is paid $87,000
annually.
