Casino proposed for MSP airport
The Associated Press
It didn't fully take wing, but a proposal that the state open a casino at
Twin Cities Airport got a warm reception at a House committee.
Rep. Phyllis Kahn, DFL-Minneapolis, says she got the idea during a recent
trip through the Amsterdam airport, which has a casino.
Under her proposal, only travelers with boarding passes would be admitted to
the casino, which would most likely consist only of slot machines.
Kahn is not normally a proponent of gambling expansion, but she says it
would be "free money.''
Analysts estimate it could raise about $27 million a year for the state.
Mitch Killian of the Metropolitan Airports Commission says the group hasn't
taken a position on Kahn's proposal but that some commissioners are
interested. But he says space is very tight at the airport.
