Detroit Metropolitan Airport posts second-best year for traffic
The Associated Press
Passenger traffic at Detroit Metropolitan Airport rose 7.5 percent in 2004
from the previous year, airport officials said Monday.
The airport finished 2004 with 35,187,517 total passengers, which is
exceeded only by the 2000 total of 35,535,080 passengers.
"Our customers are back," Lester Robinson, chief executive of the Wayne
County Airport Authority, said in a statement released by the airport. "If
we stay on our current pace, there is no question that 2005 will be
Detroit's new record-breaking year."
International passengers increased 9.4 percent over 2003, but remained 26
percent below the airport's record-breaking year of 2000.
Landings and takeoffs at the airport finished the year at 522,538, a 6.4
percent increase over 2003, officials said.
