ADP prepares for arrival of A380
(Les grands aeroports se preparent)
France - Les Echos
Aeroports de Paris (ADP), the company that operates airports in Paris,
France, is planning to invest a total of 740m euros in preparation for the
arrival of the new A380 aircraft produced by French aircraft manufacturer
Airbus. Of the planned investments, 100m euros is to go towards adapting the
existing infrastructure, while the remaining 640m euros will be used to
construct a new building at Roissy airport, the 'S3', which will serve as a
departure lounge and luggage sorting centre for terminals E and F.
All major airports will need to be adapted for the new aircraft. Although
the landing of the aircraft will not cause any major problems, as it has
been designed to use the same runways as the Boeing 747, there are expected
to be difficulties with the disembarkation of passengers. Airlines are
hoping to disembark over 800 passengers in 45 minutes, which means that
several sets of steps will be needed. The A380 will be put into service from
spring 2006 onwards.
