Golden Triangle airport hopes to lure Northwest back
The Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Miss. - Officials with Golden Triangle Regional Airport plan to
make a pitch to Northwest Airlines in the next month in hopes of luring the
carrier to reopen some flights.

"We think we have a really strong case, given growth in business and
traffic," GTRA deputy director Mike Hainsey said Wednesday.

The airport will lose a westward connection to Dallas-Fort Worth at the end
of the month through Atlantic Southeast Airlines, a Delta subsidiary. Delta
is closing its Dallas hub as a cost-cutting measure.

Northwest left GTRA in 2003 after a nearly 30-year relationship.

Though ASA will drop its Dallas flight from GTRA, it will add a fourth
flight to Atlanta. GTRA is showing strong increases in passenger loads on
ASA, with a 7 percent rise in passengers in December between 2003 and 2004.
