Hearings on new Dulles runways
The Loudoun (VA) Times-Mirror
The Federal Aviation Administration recently announced that it made the
draft environmental impact statement for two new runways and related
improvements at Dulles International Airport available to the public
starting Jan. 13.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority proposes to construct an
additional north-south and east-west runway, parallel and connector
taxiways, Tier 3 concourse development and navigational aids. The two runway
alternatives and a no-build (or no-action) alternative also have been
evaluated in the statement.
In Loudoun, an open house public workshop and hearing on the statement will
be Feb. 22 at Farmwell Station Middle School, 44281 Gloucester Parkway,
Ashburn. It will include a public information meeting, 5 to 8 p.m., and a
public hearing, 6 to 8 p.m.
The purpose of the hearing is for the FAA to receive public comments on the
statement.
In Loudoun the statement is available for review at the Ashburn Library,
Rust Library, Middleburg Library, Purcellville Library, Sterling Library and
Eastern Loudoun Regional Library. Appointments to view the documents at FAA
or airports authority offices can be made by calling the FAA at 703-661-1364
or the airports authority at 703-572-2710.
The statement is also available online at the airports authority Web site:

The FAA will accept comments on the draft environmental impact statement
from Jan. 21 until March 7. Publication in the Federal Register is
anticipated on Jan. 21. The public can submit verbal and written comments
during the public hearing/workshop or can mail comments to the project
manager, Brad Mehaffy, FAA, Washington Airports District Office, 23723 Air
Freight Lane, Suite 210, Dulles, VA 20166. Verbal comments can be made
publicly to the hearing officer at the public hearing or privately with a
court reporter.
