Airplane runs off runway at Richmond International Airport; no injuries
reported

Virginia State Police responded to an incident Thursday morning at Richmond
International Airport involving an airplane that ran off the runway while
the airplane was in the process of taking off. It was raining at the time of
the incident which occurred at 8:15 a.m. 

Trooper R.D. Andrews investigated the incident. 

The trooper's investigation revealed that the airplane was in the process of
taking off, when it ran off the runway and came to rest in a grassy area. 

The airplane, an American Airlines MD-80, was carrying 129 passengers and
five crew members at the time of the incident and was bound for Dallas/Fort
Worth International Airport in Texas. No one aboard the airplane was injured
and there was no visible damage to the airplane. 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responded to the incident and the
investigation is continuing.
