Airport official: US Airways hub shift not causing problems
The Associated Press
MAINE, N.Y. - Although some upstate air travelers had feared problems when
U-S Airways shifted most major connecting flights from Pittsburgh to
Philadelphia, few serious snags are being reported.
Airport managers have been monitoring operations of the struggling carrier,
which moved operations to its Philadelphia hub as it works to slash costs in
an effort to emerge from bankruptcy.
Carl Beardsley -- a manager at the Binghamton Regional Airport -- says
things have gone "surprisingly well" in the six weeks since U-S Airways
implemented major schedule changes.
Beardsley told a Binghamton radio station (W-N-B-F) that some travelers
who've had connecting flights through Philadelphia encountered "sporadic"
problems but nothing "out of the norm."
While some U-S Airways customers said they anticipated more delayed flights
and missed connections because the Philadelphia airport is busier than
Pittsburgh had been, Beardsley said no significant trouble has occurred.
