Libyan man arrested in airport security scare is released without charge
The Associated Press
DARLINGTON, England - A Libyan man arrested over a security scare that
closed a small regional airport was released Sunday without charge, police
said.
Durham-Tees Valley Airport, in northeastern England, was closed for two
hours on Saturday after the 35-year-old man was removed from a British
Midland flight and army experts carried out a controlled explosion on his
luggage. Investigations found no traces of explosives.
The man had been detained under the Terrorism Act. Police said he was an
electrical engineer employed by a Libyan oil company and had been studying
in Britain for six months.
Durham Police said the man, who was due to fly to London's Heathrow Airport
for a connecting flight to Tripoli, was released after questioning. They
declined to provide any further information.
