MAC delays airport expansion decision

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is delaying a decision on the
first phase of a proposed expansion at Minneapolis-St. Paul International
Airport.
MAC staff had been pushing toward a Dec. 20 vote on the plan's first phase,
which calls for a $185 million doubling of the number of gates to 16 at the
Humphrey terminal. A vote now will happen no sooner than January, said
Patrick Hogan, spokesman for the MAC.
That would allow for Eagan-based Northwest Airlines Corp. to take control of
more gates at the Lindbergh terminal as competitors were moved to the new
Humphrey gates.
"We want to make sure we have all the information and all the background
prepared" for commissioners to review before a vote, Hogan said.
