Security lapse found at Oslo airport
Norway - Aftenposten
Officials at Oslo's main airport at Gardermoen are scrambling to plug holes
in airport security that were revealed in a video made by young intruders.
The youngsters managed to scale a perimeter wall at the airport and then
stole a service vehicle. One of the boys drove the vehicle around parked
aircraft, while the other boy taped him.
The video was obtained by TV2, much to the embarrassment of airport
officials when they saw it. "We first found out about the break-in yesterday
(Monday)," Jo Kobro, information chief for the airport, told newspaper
Aftenposten.
The identities of the two boys weren't made known, but they reportedly claim
they pulled the stunt last spring to test the airport's security. "I
question why it took half a year before we were told about it," said Kobro.
Airport management met Monday to discuss ways of tightening security around
the airport perimeter, on the tarmac and in the terminal. "We're taking this
very seriously, but can't put a hermetic seal on the entire area," Kobro
said.
