Authorities Search Airport After Illegal Item Found In Passenger's Bag
Delays Up To Three Hours Expected On Some Flights
KNBC-TV Ch 4 (NBC), Los Angeles (CA)

LOS ANGELES -- Authorities searched terminals and planes at John Wayne
Airport Monday after an item not allowed on board aircraft was found in a
passenger's bag.

Terminals are open again, according to Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona.

However, the sheriff said that delays of up to three hours are expected on
at least some flights as airport operations return to normal.

Carona said the item found by a screener was "not a bomb." He described it
as an "apparatus," but he did not elaborate.

The item was found shortly before 9 a.m.

There was no immediate word on arrests.
