Belgium to tighten airport staff screening procedures
Text of Belga report by Belgian newspaper De Standaard web site on 23
November entitled "Tighter security checks at Zavantem airport"
Security checks at Zaventem Airport will be tightened. Past careers of
candidate security officers will be screened and the centralized criminal
register record will be checked. Interior Minister Patrick Dewael (VLD
[Flemish Liberal Democrats]) said this in reaction to a Telefacts televised
report on a VTM [Flemish Television Corporation] reporter who managed to
join the Securair security company and smuggle a fake bomb into an aircraft.
Securair risks an administrative fine of 25,000 euros.
