Security Breach Prompts Evacuation At Will Rogers World Airport
Hundreds Evacuated After Box Of Ammunition Found By Security Workers
KOCO-TV Ch 5 (ABC), Oklahoma City (OK)
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of people were evacuated from the Will Rogers
World Airport concourse on Wednesday after a security breach was reported.
Airport officials said Transportation Safety Administration inspectors
discovered a suspicious box at about 2 p.m. The box, which was inspected in
the "sterile area" of the terminal, was partially filled with live
ammunition, officials said.
Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said that two incoming flights -- one
operated by American Airlines and the other by Continental Airlines -- were
halted, and passengers were ordered off the planes for screenings.
Carney said it took about 30 minutes for security personnel to secure the
concourse. Hundreds of Thanksgiving travelers were evacuated during security
sweeps of the airport, which began at about 2:30 p.m.
American, Continental, Frontier, United and Northwest flights were affected
by the security lockdown, Carney said..
