VIA to sign concession for four airports
BNamericas.com

Authorities from Vancouver international airport (VIA) are due to arrive in
Honduras the week beginning November 15 to conclude negotiations over a
concession to operate four airports there, according to local daily La
Prensa.

VIA will hold the concession to operate airports at the cities of
Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba and Roatan. The concession was passed
on to VIA after the original concessions winner, InterAirports, failed to
show up to carry out the contract. In March 2000 InterAirports won the
concession to operate the four airports after offering to hand over to the
Honduran government up to 40% of revenues from the facilities. InterAirports
later said it would invest some 400mn lempiras (US$21.6mn) to improve the
four airports in its concession.

InterAirports - a consortium made up of five companies that each work on
specialized areas of airport management - holds a concession at San
Francisco international airport, California, where it is also embroiled in a
controversy over alleged mismanagement of funds designated for airport
expansion.
