Local firms leading airport investment search

Peruvian companies are leading the search for international investors for a
regional airports concession, Robert McDonald, head of airports and ports at
state investment promotion agency ProInversion told BNamericas.
"We have received important interest from three or four main groups that
have direct or indirect involvement with airports already. Each group has
Peruvian involvement and what we have seen is that Peruvian groups are
working hard to find international partners," he said.
This has been a pleasant surprise for ProInversion and the transport and
communications ministry (MTC), particularly since several other large
airport projects are competing for international investors at this time.
McDonald said potential investors recognize the "very strong potential" in
Peru for the airport sector that will come with the development of tourism
infrastructure and trade, through the shipment of agricultural products.
Technical and financial offers for the 25-year concession are due January
28, a deadline that ProInversion intends to keep. "We are working hard and
through the weekends to keep very tightly to the schedule," McDonald said.
The airports included in the regional concession are Anta, Talara, Tumbes,
Chiclayo, Piura, Iquitos, Pucallpa, Chachapoyas and Tarapoto.
