New terminal to double Madrid airport capacity
SPAIN - EL PAIS

The new T4 terminal at Madrid's Barajas airport will have the capacity to
hold 35 million passengers, 10 million more than the existing three
terminals combined. Of this figure, around 28.5 million are expected to be
customers of the OneWorld airline alliance, which includes Spanish flagship
carrier Iberia, with a further 7.5 million flying with the Star Alliance
group, which includes rival carrier Spanair.

The expansion works on the airport will leave Madrid Barajas with four
runways, allowing for two aeroplanes per minute to take off and land, almost
double the current rate, with a total of 18,400 passengers moving through
the airport during peak hours by 2010, when the new terminal is fully
operational. The T4 terminal will also feature a total of 64 parking spaces
for aeroplanes, almost 9,000 car parking spaces, and 174 check-in counters.
