FBI detained Frenchman for taping LAX
United Press International
Los Angeles, CA, (UPI) -- A French visitor was questioned and released by
the FBI late last week after he was seen videotaping a tunnel at Los Angeles
International Airport.
The FBI confirmed late Tuesday the man had been taping images of the
Sepulvada Boulevard tunnel, a main thoroughfare that cuts under one of the
runways at the busy airport.
LAX is considered a prime potential target for a terrorist attack.
KNBC-TV in Los Angeles said the unidentified man told agents he was taking
pictures of various Southern California landmarks, including LAX.
Agents searched his nearby motel room and then released him. An FBI
spokeswoman told UPI the man's story appeared to be consistent with the
evidence found by the agents.
KNBC said the Frenchman left the United States after he was released.
