Broward commissioners debate no-bid airport contract
By ERIKA BOLSTAD
The Miami (FL) Herald

Broward County commissioners voted to fast-track the design process that
will make the international terminal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood
International Airport more comfortable for passengers when US Airways begins
expanded Caribbean and Latin American service in February.

However, they were uncomfortable with awarding one company a $9 million
no-bid construction contract. The project will improve the U.S. Customs and
Transportation Security Administration areas at the terminal in time for the
Feb. 14 launch of U.S. Airways' expanded service.

The commission will decide at their Oct. 26 meeting whether to waive their
purchasing rules and award the construction contract to a specific company.
