Aeroports De Paris Denies Fault In Dubai Airport Collapse
DOW JONES
DUBAI -- An official with the design consultant for Dubai's Terminal 3
building denied that the firm's architectural plans were at fault in the
construction site collapse earlier Monday.
"There's no problem with the architecture," said the official with Aeroports
de Paris International. "It's a problem with the construction."
The official wouldn't provide any more details, saying the French firm
doesn't have any workers on site.
"We're not involved in this matter," he said.
The building collapsed at 11 am (0700 GMT), according to construction
workers at the airport . The reason wasn't immediately known. A construction
official said about 150 workers were on the site when the structure
collapsed.
An unspecified number of workers were trapped and injured, police and
airport officials said.
Aeroports de Paris also operates Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport, where a
roof collapse in a newly built extension killed four people in May.
The airport is being upgraded and expanded in a program costing EUR3.33
billion. It bills itself "the world's fastest growing airport ."
Dubai airport currently can cater for 22 million passengers a year, and the
expansion is designed to boost that to 60 million once it is completed in
2018.
