10 in fray for Egypt airport expansion
GULF CONSTRUCTION
Cairo Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has received bids from 10
prequalified groups to expand the $44 million Sharm El Shaikh International
Airport in Egypt.
Saudi's Bin Laden submitted the lowest bid at $67 million, followed by a
consortium of Pizzarotti of Italy and the local Ginza at $70 million.
The successful bidder will be responsible for building a new terminal at
Sharm airport with a total built-up area of 43,233 sq m, including six gates
for international arrivals and departures and one gate for domestic flights.
The project, which is expected to complete in December 2005, will be capable
of handling 2,500 passengers per hour. Enabling works are being carried out
by the local Mediterranean Contracting Company, under a $2 million contract
awarded in mid-November. Beirut-based Dar Al Handasah (Shair & Partners) is
the project consultant.
