Air marshal policy may compromise cover
United Press International

Washington, DC, (UPI) -- A policy requiring federal air marshals to stay in
groups at certain hotels has been decried by officers who claim it exposes
their undercover status.

The Washington Times was reportedly able to identify which three hotels near
Washington Dulles International Airport and which three hotels near New
York's John F. Kennedy Airport were mandated under the new policy within 10
minutes, the newspaper reported Sunday.

Furthering concerns, a document listing the names of 24 undercover federal
air marshals and their room numbers was left unguarded on a hotel counter
during the Republican National Convention in New York Aug. 30.

Marshals have said the mishandling of the information further highlights the
security risks of lumping agents together in large groups.
