City's air service effort receives national recognition
By David Dinell
The Wichita (KS) Business Journal

The marketing effort to get area residents to stop driving to Kansas City
International Airport and instead use Wichita Mid-Continent Airport for
their air travel needs has resulted in a national award for the city of
Wichita.

The campaign, know as the Ditch the Drive campaign, received the recognition
from the City and County Communication and Marketing Association.

The city got the first place "Savvy Award" for the campaign, which ran in
2003.

The award was presented at the group's national convention in Denver.

In making the award, judges said "this campaign very clearly identified its
target audience and then went after it in a big way."

Wichita competed against cites of similar size, including Oklahoma City,
Norfolk, Va., and Tallahassee, Fla.

Wichitans cited for their work in the project included Steve Flesher, air
services director; Jessica Johnson, marketing services director; and Sonia
Greteman and Raleigh Drennan of the Greteman Group, which did the project's
creative work.
