Odebrecht consortium bids lowest to expand Rio airport
BNamericas.com
The Odebrecht-Carioca-Construcap consortium has submitted the lowest bid -
290mn reais (US$97.9mn) - for a contract to expand Rio de Janeiro's Santos
Dumont airport, an official from Brazil's federal airport authority Infraero
told BNamericas.
Offers from the other five bidders, which included five other consortia made
up of companies including OAS, Andrade Gutierrez and Mendes Junior, and
construction and engineering firm Camargo Correa, ranged from 291mn reais to
295mn reais.
The expansion includes adding some 60,000 sq. m. to the airport terminal, as
well as parking space and a hotel. The airport receives some 6 million
passengers/y, though it was designed to handle 3 million.
The official said that following a legal recourse period, contract signing
and works startup are expected by year-end.
Authorities expect works to be completed in 2006, just in time to handle the
increased demand for the 2007 Pan-American games, and in the lead up to
possible hosting of the 2012 Olympic games that Rio hopes to secure.
