Uruguay's main airport may become regional hub
The Economist

The concession owner of Uruguay's main airport aims to develop that
facility into a regional travel and shipping hub. Eduardo Eurnekian, an
Argentinian who holds the 30-year concession jointly with Puerta del
Sur, says current plans call for converting Uruguay's main airport into
a regional hub for the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
and Uruguay, with Bolivia, Chile and Peru as associate members).

The concession holders say they will invest more than US$100m to have
the Carrasco facility sufficiently upgraded by 2009. The modernised air
terminal will then be able to handle some 8m passengers a year. Mr
Eurnekian also owns several airport concessions in Argentina.
