Passenger traffic up at British airports
The Associated Press
LONDON - The number of passengers traveling through Britain's major
airports rose 8 percent last month compared with July last year,
airports operator BAA PLC said Wednesday.
The company, which runs Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, and
facilities in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton, said it
handled 14.2 million passengers in July 2004.
BAA cited big improvements on North Atlantic routes, where passenger
numbers grew 12.3 percent. Traffic on other long haul routes was up 14.6
percent. It said the long haul sector had returned to pre-Sept. 11, 2001
passenger levels for the first time.
