Airport screener indicted for making false statements
The Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) - A former Transportation Security Administration screener
at Detroit Metropolitan Airport was arraigned Thursday on charges of
lying to the government when he applied for the position, U.S. Attorney
Jeffrey Collins said.

Sadeq Naji Ahmed, 25, of Dearborn is charged with making false
statements when he told TSA officials that he never had a security
clearance suspended and that he never left a job under unfavorable
conditions.

Collins said Ahmed did have his security clearance suspended in 2001,
while he was a member of the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base in
Florida. Ahmed also left the Air Force due, in part, to statements he
allegedly made in support of Osama bin Laden and that indicated he would
not fight with the U.S. military if the United States went into Iraq,
Collins said in a release.

Ahmed began working at Detroit Metro in October 2003 and worked with the
TSA for five months.

Following his arraignment in U.S. District Court, Ahmed told reporters
"people take things out of context, that's not the right information."

Ahmed declined to comment on the charges of making false statements to
the government, each of which carries a sentence of up to five years in
prison.

"I have no idea what the charges are but as soon as I talk to my lawyer,
we'll figure it out," he said.
