South Korean airports on alert after Al Qa'idah e-mail warning
South Korea - Yonhap news agency
Seoul, - Airport officials went on alert Monday [12 July] after
receiving an e-mail message [at 0030 gmt, according to Seoul Yonhap in
Korean] claiming that an Al-Qa'idah terrorist may board a plane bound
for South Korea. The message, received by the Korea Air Traffic Control
Centre, prompted officials at all airports in the country, including its
gateway Inchon International Airport, to tighten security checks.
Officials said they so far have not confirmed anyone whose personal
information and data conform with the descriptions of a person in the
e-mail. The message, received by the Korea Air Traffic Control Centre
early in the day, gave an Arabic name and claimed that the person was
invited by a local Christian organization. The e-mail gave no other
information, including where the plane originated.
