Paris airport authority responds to EasyJet accusations
(Presentation du projet de changement de statut d'ADP)
By Delphine Denuit
France - Le Figaro
Aeroports de Paris, the body which operates the French capital's
airports, yesterday denied allegations by the UK budget airline EasyJet
that its charges for airport services are too high. According to the UK
carrier, the price it pays for luggage check-in, maintenance and the
like at Paris Roissy and Orly airports represents 70 per cent of the
price of its tickets, compared with 30 per cent at other airports.
Furthermore, EasyJet maintains that it should not be charged the same
rate for services rendered at Orly airport as for those imposed at the
more modern and passenger-friendly Roissy.
After having held talks with EasyJet's CEO, Ray Webster, yesterday
morning, ADP cited a recent study by Morgan Stanley and Credit Agricole
which showed that its charges are 26 per cent lower than those applied
at London Heathrow and 14 per cent below those in force at Amsterdam's
Schipol airport. The dispute with EasyJet comes at a time when the
French government is preparing to turn state-controlled ADP into a
limited company.
