Shops at Airport's Concourse E Unveiled
WXIA-TV Ch 11 NBC, Atlanta (GA)
Mayor Shirley Franklin joined officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport in the grand opening of 10 retail shops in
Concourse E.
Crews remodeled the concourse as part of a $5 billion expansion project.
The project includes $43 million for a new runway, the airport's fifth.
"This year, the airport is forecasting some 84 million travelers. We
should applaud that, that's nearly a third of the U.S. population,"
Franklin said.
A recent study suggested air traffic will increase rapidly over the next
15 years. The goal of the project is to reduce flight delays until the
year 2020.
