TV reporter arrested for allegedly scaling airport fence
The Associated Press
FARGO, N.D. - A TV reporter doing a story about airport security was
arrested after he was allegedly spotted climbing over a fence.
Television station WDAY said its reporter Mike Licquia was arrested
Saturday and has been suspended pending the results of the police
investigation.
Police said Licquia was arrested at about 11 a.m. after he was seen
scaling an 8-foot chain-link fence at Fargo's Hector International
Airport.
Witnesses said Licquia entered a loading area next to the terminal
before climbing out again, Fargo Police Sgt. Wayne Jorgenson said.
Witnesses reported the incident to the Transportation Security
Administration supervisor, who called police, Jorgenson said.
Licquia was arrested on suspicion of trespassing in a secure area, a
Class C felony, Jorgenson said. Formal charges have not been filed.
WDAY and Cass County Jail officials said Licquia was released Saturday
on a personal recognizance bond.
Jorgenson said Licquia told police he was not assigned to scale the
fence.
"I think what he said is that WDAY did not know he was going to do
this," Jorgenson said.
A cameraman who was with Licquia did not climb the fence and was not
arrested, Jorgenson said.
"We've had people jump the fence periodically over the years, but this
is the first time that I know of that we've had reporter do it,"
Jorgenson said.
