Terengganu to use palace architecture concept for airport
Malaysia - The Star

KUALA TERENGGANU - The state's new airport terminal complex here will be
based on the palace architecture concept incorporating the unique
Terengganu design.

Mentri Besar Datuk Idris Jusoh said the design had been agreed to by the
state executive council and it would be submitted to the Transport
Ministry.

"Since it incorporates the unique Terengganu design found in traditional
kampung houses, the design cannot be found in other airports in the
country.

"We are following the open building concept to ensure it is airy and
blends well with the environment," he told newsmen after chairing the
state exco meeting at Wisma Darul Iman here yesterday.

Idris did not disclose the cost of the complex, saying the Public Works
Department would determine it.

Last week, he was quoted as saying it would cost between RM60mil and
RM70mil and work was expected to begin at the end of the year.

"The complex will be built on land acquired several years ago next to
the existing terminal which will not be demolished," he said.

He said that work would begin next month to improve facilities in the
existing terminal such as air-conditioning and baggage conveyance.
