Concern has been expressed that the construction of the new Bangkok
International Airport's control tower has fallen behind schedule.
The head of the government-appointed committee monitoring the
construction of Bangkok's new international airport, Sombat Uthaisang,
told reporters here yesterday that while the Suvarnabhumi Airport
construction was generally going to plan, work on the control tower was
worryingly slow.
Mr. Sombat said he was in the process of finding out what had caused the
delay.
When completed, the airport control tower will the tallest in the world.
More than two-thirds of the airport construction has been completed,
said Mr. Sombat, and he blamed heavy rain for the slight delay in the
project The new airport is scheduled to be completed in March next year.
The President of Aerothai, in charge of the control tower's
construction, Priti Hetrakul, said the work on the tower had started
later than scheduled because the contractor-agreement was signed late.
The foundation work was under way and the tower would be completed by
next March, he added.
