Mexico Plans Airport Operator IPOs
Reuters
Mexico plans to float shares of two airport operators on the local
bourse late this year and in 2005, the head of the government's airport
services agency (ASA) said Friday.
Mexico's Asur, which operates 12 airports in the south of the country
including one for the Caribbean resort of Cancun, already trades on the
Mexican and New York stock exchanges.
Ernesto Velasco, ASA's chief executive, said the government is readying
initial public offers for 85 percent of the shares it holds in Grupo
Aeroportuario del Centro-Norte and Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico.
"First the Pacifico offer will come out, probably at the end of this
year and afterwards, next year, Centro-Norte, will be offered," Velasco
said.
Pacifico operates airports in Aguascalientes, Bajio, Guadalajara,
Hermosillo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Manzanillo, Mexicali, Morelia, Puerto
Vallarta, San Jose del Cabo and Tijuana.
Centro-Norte operates airports in Acapulco, Ciudad Juarez, Culiacan,
Chihuahua, Durango, Mazatlan, Monterrey, Reynosa, San Luis Potosi,
Tampico, Torreon, Zacatecas and Zihuatanejo.
Velasco declined to put a value on the share offers. The government has
said in the past that it intends to raise around USD$220 million for its
majority stakes in the two operators.
Mexico has 59 airports, 47 operating both domestic and international
flights and 12 exclusively handling local flights.
