Tucson International Airport plans new runway, other improvements
The Associated Press
Plans being crafted for the future of Tucson International Airport
include a new runway and other facilities to handle anticipated growth
in passengers and flights over the next two decades.
The new 11,000-foot runway proposed in the master plan update would be
built by 2011 in an area south of and alongside the existing runway.
A consulting firm says the new runway would relieve delays that are
expected to occur because of the growing use of the existing runway by
smaller, regional corporate jets.
A taxiway would be built between the old and new runways.
The project will require the purchase of about 225 acres adjacent to the
airport.
The project's estimated cost, including land acquisition, totals $50
million.
