Afghan officials, NATO representatives discuss Kabul airport
reconstruction

A number of cabinet members and representatives of NATO, the
International Civil Aviation Organization, the World Bank and the US
Federal Aviation held their third meeting at the Foreign Ministry today
to discuss reconstruction of Kabul International Airport.

The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister Dr Abdollah and NATO's civil
representative for Afghanistan, Hikmet Cetin. The foreign minister
expressed appreciation for the international community and NATO's
cooperation to reconstruct and expand different parts of Kabul
International Airport. He stressed the need to accelerate the process.

Participants of the meeting spoke and presented their proposals. They
also gave information to participants about the work done after the
second meeting.

It is worth mentioning that reconstruction of Kabul International
Airport will cost 60m dollars. This reconstruction includes the lighting
system, building a runway, facilities for emergency landing,
reconstruction of communications system, installation of electronic
equipment, tower, transportation, and weather forecast. The
reconstruction will take place under the leadership of NATO and with
cooperation of the Afghan government.
