Germany reaches agreement with EU Commission regarding expansion of
Frankfurt airport
(Nahern bei Flughafenausbau)
GERMANY - THE FINANCIAL TIMES DEUTSCHLAND

The German government is expected to reach an agreement soon with the EU
Commission regarding plans to expand Frankfurt airport. The Commission
had commenced proceedings against Germany, claiming that the planned
runway would be an infringement of EU environmental law.

The Commission now says that it will abandon proceedings if the German
government carries out a full environmental and safety inspection and
agrees not to expand the airport. Delegates of the government had
announced yesterday that they were prepared to accept this. Before
proceedings are stopped, however, the Commission wishes to receive the
German government's official reply to its warning letter.
