Hicks to remain at helm of airport
By WELLS ANDREWS
The Mohave Valley (NV) News
LAUGHLIN - Norm Hicks will stay on board with Laughlin/Bullhead
International Airport until a suitable successor can be found to replace him
as executive director and chief operating officer.
The announcement came during the meeting of the Mohave County Airport
Authority Board of Directors at Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort and Casino
on May 13. The MCAA controls the local airport. New members and officers
were named during the annual organizational meeting.
Hicks reported he will retire with his family to Washington after selling
his home in Bullhead City. To help with the transition, the airport board
voted to pay an additional $1,000 a month for up to six months to help Hicks
with the extra costs involved in having two places to stay.
If time permits, his replacement will be hired as the assistant executive
director until sufficiently trained for the position.
Larry Sinagoga reported that another major retail chain is only a few weeks
or so away from reaching a final agreement to build an outlet store north of
Home Depot at the airport.
He also said they had several letters of intent to build a drug store, major
department store, a pet company store and three restaurants. He added,
“One of the restaurants is nationally recognized ... and will be well
received by the community.
Hicks informed the board that he was working with another airline that would
provide service to northern California.
Sun Quest Airline out of Reno, Nev., is working with the Riverside to become
a charter service for them.
As in the past, tickets could be sold to individual passengers when seats
are available. The airline is working toward a schedule of eight flights per
week starting around July 16.
The plane itself would be slightly larger than Harrahs charter planes. This
would complement the new air service started by David Lords and other
investors that will serve Scottsdale, Ariz., and the San Diego area.
The board voted to elect Terry Kelly, campus dean at Mohave Community
College, and Jerry Bender, director of Clark County Sewer District and Big
Bend Water District, as new general members of the Mohave County Airport
Authority.
The board also voted to fill three seats whose terms were up. The new terms
will be for three years.
One Arizona representative, three Nevada representatives were voted for.
For Nevada, Darryl Dauenhauer, general manager for Flamingo Laughlin, and
Joe Marr, the authority’s public relations committee chair, were reelected
to three-year terms; John Koster, general manager for Harrah’s, was
elected to fill a seat vacated by resignation for a two-year term.
Jo Elle Hurns, executive director of the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce, was
elected to a three-year term representing the Arizona side.
Larry Sinagoga will become the new chairman, John Koster will become vice
chairman.
All other board members kept their current seats.
