Investigation report alleges wrongdoing at Tulsa airport
KFOR-TV NBC Ch 4, Oklahoma City (OK)
TULSA -- A federal probe alleges possible wrongdoing at Tulsa
International Airport.
A newspaper report outlines accusations that airport officials tried to
lend money to Great Plains Airlines, in light of federal laws that bar
providing a direct subsidy to an airline.
The report says legal analysis sought by airport management concluded
that to keep from breaking the law, the loan had to be related to a real
estate transaction.
The report alleges that when it appeared Great Plains might default on
the loan, Tulsa airport officials tried to retire the debt by attaching
it to a project that requested $10 million in passenger facility
charges. The Federal Aviation Administration rejected the request.
Great Plains filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January.
