The maintenance division of Exeter based airline Flybe
has become far more than a healthy money spinner. The
company has earnt a reputation worldwide and
desperately needs more room to expand to service air
craft from all corners of the globe. A hundred new
engineering jobs will be created over the next five
years once the construction of a new two and half a
million pound hanger is completed. A million pounds is
also being spent on new facilities as the airport
itself tries to cope with more passengers and flights.
A new taxiway ,access road and extra parking are
needed. The airport has high ambitions. More airlines
have expressed an interest in operating from Exeter .
A planning application for a new terminal was
submitted nearly four years ago but is still under
consideration. Business leaders believe the future of
the airport must be determined quickly to ensure it
can really take off. Richard lawrence for Westcountry
