Sanford airport's February passenger traffic up 190%
Orlando Business Journal, FL

Orlando Sanford International Airport officials
reported Thursday that passenger traffic for February
was up 190 percent compared to February 2003,
representing the eighth consecutive month of passenger
growth.

"We are thrilled at this remarkable beginning of the
new year, and we've got our fingers crossed that the
rest of the year keeps up this fantastic growth
trend," says Sanford Airport Authority president Larry
Dale in a written statement.

The airport saw 88,864 passengers pass through its
terminals during the month. The traffic mix for
February was 58,651 domestic travelers, up 256
percent, and 30,213 international, up 113 percent.

Cargo volume, meanwhile, was up 43 percent, with the
airport processing 393 tons during the month, and
aircraft operations were up more than 1 percent, at
26,162.

Year-to-date, airport officials report an increase of
155 percent in total passenger traffic, with increases
of 219 percent for domestic and 87 percent for
international.

New airline service from TransMeridian Airlines and
additional destinations on Southeast Airlines
accounted for a majority of the domestic growth, says
Dale.
