Nagoya Airport to Reopen for Private Flights
Daily Yomiuri, Japan

Aichi Prefecture plans to reopen Nagoya Airport as a
general aviation airport next year concurrent with the
opening of the Central Japan International Airport to
accommodate private flights, a prefectural government
official said Wednesday.

Tetsuya Uzawa, an executive director for the Overall
Transportation Department of the Aichi prefectural
government, said at a press conference in Tokyo , "The
prefectural government plans to use Nagoya Airport to
develop the regional economy, which is generally
recognized as the manufacturing center of Japan."

After the new airport opens in February, Nagoya
Airport, which operates scheduled flights under the
management of the central government, will be managed
by the Aichi prefectural government. However, the new
airport will service all regular domestic and
international flights.

"Japan still lags far behind most other countries in
its policies and practices toward business aviation,"
said Shelly Longmuir, the president of the U.S.
National Business Aviation Association.
