Federal Government to Upgrade Benin Airport's
Facilities
This Day, Nigeria
Minister of Aviation, Malam Issa Yuguda, has said the
Federal Government was desirous of upgrading
facilities at the Benin Airport because of its
strategic location.
The minister, who was in Edo State in continuation of
his nation wide tour of aviation facilities, said the
ministry was determined to prosecute the
anti-corruption "war" of the Obasanjo administration,
in order to restore sanity to institutions within the
ministry.
He said he regretted the inability of the Aviation
College, Kaduna, to graduate a single pilot in 12
years, due to the running aground of the college by
what he called "the corruption cankerworm", but
promised to do everything to restore the lost glory of
the college.
Yuguda, while addressing staff of the Airport,
stressed the determination of the ministry to maintain
professionalism, but said the inevitable down-sizing
of its staff would be done "with sense of equity and
justice, devoid of witch-hunting."
He commended the staff for their commitment,
admonishing them to be wary of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The minister, who had earlier called on Governor Lucky
Igbinedion and the Benin Monarch, Omo N'Oba
Eredi-auwa, eulogized the virtues of the
anti-corruption and monetisation policies of the
Federal Government, saying, "corruption is the
cankerworm that has run our valuable institutions
agro-und."
