New Seating Approved for Hope Airport
Los Angeles Daily News, CA
BURBANK -- The Bob Hope Airport will spend $485,660 to
replace 1,230 seats in its departure terminals,
following a unanimous vote Monday by the airport's
governing board.
The existing seats were installed in 1987 and are
showing wear and tear, even though many have been
repaired or replaced already, officials said.
"(Passengers) sleep on the chairs, they use them a lot
and they get a lot of activity. And now that people
get to the airport (early), they use them even more,"
said Airport Authority President Charles Lombardo.
Over the past few years, the airport authority
received several claims for damages from travelers
whose clothing was ripped or damaged by the aging
seats, officials said.
The existing seats are made of molded plastic and are
not upholstered. The new seats will have cushioning
and some will have armrests to discourage passengers
from lying across several seats and going to sleep,
Lombardo said.
The seats will be installed within three months by
Krueger International of Green Bay, Wis.
