Klebanov Backs Aeroflot Modernisation Project at
Kaliningrad Airport
ITAR-TASS, Russia

KALININGRAD, March 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The air company
Aoerflot will modernize the Kaliningrad airport
Khrabrovo. Plenipotentiary representative of the
Russian president in the North-western federal
district Ilya Klebanov, Russian acting first deputy
transport minister Alexander Neradko and Aeroflot
director-general Valery Okulov have taken the decision
at their working council on Tuesday.

“The stable transport communication of the Kaliningrad
region with the Russian mainland is of special
importance, as it will be surrounded by new EU
member-countries soon,” Klebanov told a news
conference. The aerodrome Khrabrovo does not meet
modern requirements of passenger traffic, he
emphasised.

The federal authorities allocated 200 million roubles
from the 2004 budget for the repair of the airport
runway. The airport owner, Kaliningradavia will make
its contribution in the airport development. However
Klebanov noted that the modernisation project proposed
by this company “is absolutely unfeasible over high
expenses.”

The presidential plenipotentiary representative noted
that under the Aeroflot project that would be
implemented jointly with the National Reserve Bank a
modern convenient airport terminal worth of five
million dollars would be built.
