Cherry Capital Airport: Delta to offer Traverse City
Service
Traverse City Record Eagle, MI
TRAVERSE CITY - Seasonal weekend air service
between Cincinnati and Cherry Capital Airport through
Delta's regional carrier will begin on Memorial Day
weekend.
Delta Connection said Monday it's adding
non-stop weekend flights between Traverse City and
Delta's Cincinnati hub starting May 28 and continuing
through Sept. 5.
Delta said the service will include departing
flights from Traverse City at 8:40 a.m. on Saturdays
and Sundays, a 5:45 p.m. flight on Saturday and a
10:20 a.m. flight on Sundays.
From Cincinnati, flights will depart at 9 p.m.
on Saturdays and Sundays, at 3:35 p.m. on Saturdays
and 8:15 a.m. on Sundays. The flight times are
estimated at around 95 minutes. There also will be
additional flights on Memorial Day and Labor Day
weekends.
"That's really exciting news," said Laura
Strietmann, whose family regularly travels between
Cincinnati and their seasonal home in Leland. "We've
been waiting, hoping for a direct flight from (Ohio)
... this is going to be a huge hit, I can tell you.
There are so many Cincinnati people that go north."
Airport director Stephen Cassens said the Delta
Connection service will be a welcome addition. The
airport's airline offerings currently include
Northwest, Northwest Airlink, American Eagle and
United Express.
"We draw a lot of our passengers from around the
Great Lakes basin," Cassens said. "I know it's going
to be popular ... we know a lot of people from Ohio."
Passengers will fly on Fairchild 328 regional
jets through Atlantic Coast Airlines, one of Delta
Connection's regional carriers. Cassens said a
Fairchild jet is a 34-passenger "droopy-eared" styled
jet that's new to Cherry Capital. "We haven't seen
those before," he said. "It should be a really good
aircraft."
Delta also is offering special introductory
fares with the new service, with one-way tickets from
Traverse City as low as $76 to Cincinnati, $93 to
Boston and $116 to New Orleans.
"We think it's going to be a very popular
service," said Nick Miller, a spokesman for Delta
Connections. "Everyone knows that Traverse City is a
very beautiful area."
